Air ‘Bee & Bee’

Italian beekeeper Rocco Filomeno has listed the world’s first bee farm on Airbnb. Located in Provincia di Matera in southern Italy, the buzz worthy hive invites guests to sleep surrounded by a colony of over one million bees.

“This is the first place in the world where you can sleep immersed in the distinctive sound and aroma of the bees, experiencing ‘bee-therapy’ in the most authentic and natural way” said Rocco Filomeno, Beekeeper and Airbnb Host.

The Air Bee & Bee has been constructed in Rocco’s olive farm and aims to promote awareness and respect for bees. Financed through crowdfunding and built by 25 local volunteers, the structure cost $17,000.

It comprises a single bedroom with two single beds, surrounded by nine apiaries that contain a combined total of 1 million working bees. Made entirely of fir and birchwood, the project combines innovation, sustainability and slow tourism in the world of beekeeping and apitherapy.

Rocco offers guests a breakfast of ricotta, strawberries, homemade biscuits and, last but not least, local honey.
